You won’t be surprised to learn that the pandemic of Covid-19 and the associated lockdown had and still has a massive affect on us and the brewery. Firstly though, everyone here at Team TOB and their families are healthy and well. And we really hope the same is true for you and your loved ones.
Now that we are a few weeks into this new way of living, we can look back and assess the situation. Despite the sudden drop of around 70% in sales, we feel we have adapted well. Mainly because we already had our online shop in place that allowed people with a thirst for quality and locally produced beer to place orders from day 1. After a substantial spike in orders over the first few weeks, we have now moved to a steady level of orders each week, which is perfectly manageable by our skeleton crew. This crew consists of owners Andi and Michael whilst both Connor and Roddy have been furloughed since mid March.
The addition of the Cabin Fever Box containing a selection of all available beers has proven very popular on the webshop and has been by far the biggest seller. As a result, stocks started to swindle and Michael has been busy brewing all of our core beers – all of which are being bottled. We now have a shed load of fresh bottles of our most popular beers The Cone and Schmankerl available from our webshop. Next beers to be bottled are Staple – American Pale Ale and our German classic Altbier. We are also super excited for the return of Kellerbier, a super tasty and refreshing lager style from Franconia (Northern Bavaria). It is currently lagering away in our newly refurbished CT, and hopefully ready for mid May.
Another thing we are going to try are 3l beer-in-a-box (BIB) filled with fresh cask beer. The first few BIBs will be of our latest single hop Pale Ale with Waimea 3.6%. This beer is usually draught only, so a perfect tipple for those that crave a freshly pulled pint. We will see how sales go. and if there’s demand, are going to offer more beers including Barony Pale Ale 3.7% – you’ve guessed correctly – The Barony’s house ale.
Sadly, many projects and exciting collabs had to be put on hold for the foreseeable. However, we are hoping to push on with releasing a brand new core range beer in the next few weeks as well as another First Ascents one-off brew. So, keep an eye for more updates on our socials.
Finally, all that is left to say, is a big “thank you” to all you lovely people that have ordered so far and/or planning on ordering in the future. If we don’t have in stock what you like or simply fancy trying a different brewery, please do so and support local. Remember, many bottle shops are still open and offer deliveries and/or click and collect.
Stay safe and well
Your Team TOB
