Lager - Ale Classic (alc 4.5% abv)

A German classic with a Scottish twist, causing a stir amongst discerningcraft ale enthusiasts.

'Alt', as this kind of beer is often called, means 'old' and refers to a style which pre-dates lagers. It is a dark, malty beer with a decent dose ofGerman hops. Düsseldorf in West Germany is home to the style where it’s still made in brewpubs in the old town and beyond.

Hops: Admiral, Perle, Tettnager.

Mountain: Ben Wyvis is a vast, sprawling mountain close to the coast north of Inverness. It is isolated from any other higher ground and provides great views for such a relatively easy and short walk.

Tops Out: 1,046m (3,431ft)

"Fun and serious, Altbier tastes like a German fairground.

Colin Campbell who chose it as Beer of the Week in The Herald
